Goodyear-Cooper Deal: Brands Well-Represented Among MTD 100 Dealerships
Commenting on Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s pending acquisition of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Brad Hughes, Cooper's president and CEO, said that “when you look at the whole of it, in most cases, it’s going to offer more opportunities than risk." What’s the Goodyear brand’s current representation among the largest independent tire dealerships in the U.S.? And how many U.S.-based dealerships carry Cooper brand tires?
The 2020 MTD 100, which was published this past July, holds some answers.
Approximately 68 dealerships listed on the 2020 MTD 100 carry Goodyear brand tires across slightly more than 5,600 locations. Fifty-four dealerships on the 2020 MTD 100 carry Cooper brand tires across slightly more than 5,300 total locations.
Goodyear’s Kelly brand has representation at 34 dealerships on the MTD 100. Meanwhile, 42 dealerships on the 2020 MTD 100 carry Dunlop brand products. (Cooper’s Mastercraft, Mickey Thompson and Dick Cepek brands exist outside the 20 “most-mentioned” brands on the 2020 version of the list.)
Here’s a look at where the other brands stand in terms of dealership representation and location availability, courtesy of MTD’s 2021 Facts Issue. (Numbers listed are based on tire dealership’s self-disclosures and additional MTD research.)
