Pomp's Has Bought Whalen Tire

June 9, 2022

Pomp’s Tire Service Inc. has purchased Whalen Tire, and added nine stores and two Bandag retread plants to its operations. The acquisition marks Pomp’s farthest move west, with Whalen stores in Montana and Washington.

Paul Wochinske, president of Pomp’s Tire Service, says the nine Whalen stores all serve a mix of retail and commercial customers.

The acquisition means about 100 Whalen employees will join Pomp’s Tire Service. Wochinske says both companies “have cultures of service.”

The deal was effective June 3. It gives Pomp’s, already the nation’s fifth-largest retreader, 19 retread shops around the country, and 140 locations overall.
