Net orders for Class 8 trucks surged last month and were up 93% vs. June 2009 levels, according to ACT Research, which tracks trucking industry trends.
Slightly fewer than 16,000 Class 8 orders were placed in June, an increase of 21% over May 2010 levels.
Net orders of Class 5-7 medium-duty trucks also rebounded last month, jumping 74% over June 2009. "On a year-to-date basis, net orders for Class 8 vehicles are up by 50% while Class 5-7 orders are up 26%," say ACT officials.
"Early second quarter reports from publicly traded truckload carriers confirm the improving freight transportation environment as revenues and profits are up significantly from 2009," notes Steve Tam, ACT vice president.
