In terms of store count, the biggest gainer on this year’s Modern Tire Dealer 100 was Monro Muffler Brake Inc., which added a whopping 110 outlets in the last year.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based chain – which came in at number four on the MTD 100 -- acquired no fewer than five independent tire dealerships over the last 12 months, including Import Export Tire Co., Cheshire Tire Center Inc., Midwest Tire, Autotire Car Care Center and Tire Warehouse Central Inc., which was 21st on the 2009 MTD 100.
Monro Chairman and CEO Rob Gross says the company’s acquisitions helped boost Monro’s comparable store sales growth. The chain has plans to expand even more this year and into 2011.
“We remain encouraged by the momentum that we are experiencing in our business, particularly as macro trends in the automotive sector continue to evolve in our favor.
“We are excited about the opportunities for further market share expansion in fiscal 2011 as we continue to integrate our recent acquisitions into our business and look opportunistically for additional acquisitions in our existing markets.”
