Bill Morgan
President/Owner | Bill Morgan Tire Co. | Age: 28
What was your first job in the industry?
Working for my father’s tire company, B&B Morgan Tire, I started off changing farm tires and moved into sales.
What attracted you to the industry?
The family ties, the people, as well as the rugged toughness of the industry.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
I find getting qualified help to be the biggest problem facing my career. No one is interested in doing a tough job anymore.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
Growing up I had a lot of influences, My father being a major influence on my career, and my mother ran a retail store when I was younger. I’d also like to acknowledge one of the finest fellows I know, John Parsley of Parsley General Tire in London, Ky. He’s always helped guide me through my career and taught me a lot about the giant tire business.
What is your biggest accomplishment in the industry?
Getting the major brands of Yokohama, Continental and Pirelli to back me and sell to me direct. In the commercial business if you can’t buy it direct and buy it right you might as well not be in the business. The margins are tight and operating costs are high!
Tell us about your current job and responsibilities. How do you spend your work day?
Doing whatever needs done.
What’s one thing you wish someone would have told you before you took your current job?
How many hours a week it takes to be successful in the business.
Tell us about your family.
Dad worked for General Tire & Rubber Co. My mom ran a tire store too, so I grew up with a family in the tire business.
Name a talent you wish you had.
Impunity
How do you recover from a bad or stressful day?
I like to fix a nice dinner and watch documentaries.
If you won an Olympic gold medal, how would you have earned it? (You can make up a sport.)
As a sprinter.
What’s the biggest issue facing the industry today?
To me it’s got to be the workforce.
What advice would you give to tire dealers who are desperate to find good employees?
Good luck!
What do you expect to be doing 20 years from now?
Hopefully running a successful tire company, and being the best in the business.
