Jesse Hayes
Maintenance manager | Liberty Tire Recycling LLC | Age: 37
What was your first job in the industry?
My first job was working as a mechanic at Liberty Tire Recycling.
What attracted you to the industry?
I was attracted to the industry because of the uniqueness of the business and I love working with my hands. Working in the tire recycling industry, it takes a lot of thinking outside the box and maintenance which are my two strongest attributes.
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
The biggest challenge of my career has been learning the equipment and figuring out ways to make it more efficient and reliable. Most of our parts come from overseas and when we have a critical breakdown, we have to figure out alternatives.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
Fred Paas, the operations manager with Liberty Tire Recycling.
What’s your biggest accomplishment in the industry?
My biggest accomplishment has been being promoted to maintenance manager with Liberty Tire Recycling. I was tasked with taking a facility that had poor maintenance work practices and turning it into a facility with the least amount of down time. I have also honed my fabrication skills and have fabricated 60% of the conveyance in our facility.
