Tire Sales Were Big Highlight for Continental During 2Q

Aug. 5, 2021

Continental AG's tire business delivered stand-out performance during the second quarter of 2021, according to company officials.

"We continued to build on the positive performance of the first three months of the fiscal year," says Continental CEO Nikolai Setzer.

The company's Rubber Technologies division achieved a 46.9% jump in sales with its tires business performing "particularly well" and benefitting "from strong replacement tire business for trucks and passenger cars across the globe."

Continental says that six of "the world's 10 highest-volume manufacturers of electric vehicles relied on Continental technology for their original equipment."

Continental achieved overall global sales of 9.9 billion euros during 2Q 2021 - "well above previous year's level, which was impacted by the economic consequences of the first lockdown due to the coronavirus epidemic."

Looking ahead, "market developments will continue to be characterized by high volatility in the coming months."
