Hankook Tire & Technology continues to investigate the cause of a fire that broke out at its Daejon, South Korea, plant in March 2023.
“An investigation into the cause of the Daejeon Plant fire is still underway and we continue to review all possible solutions to ensure prompt restoration and minimize the damage," Hankook officials told MTD in an official statement.
"Production line one, which was not affected by the fire, is currently going through a test-run under strict supervision. We cannot predict when the plant will be back to full production as we are still undergoing the official investigation. We will continue to share updates with our customers as we assess the impact of the fire.”
According to a report published in a South Korea-based news outlet after the fire broke out, the Daejon facility - one of eight Hankook plants worldwide - produces 20 million tires annually, with 65% of its output shipped overseas. More than 200,000 tires were reportedly destroyed in the multi-day blaze, which was extinguished on March 15.
