Giti Tire Announces Winners of STEAM Competition

Giti Tire (USA) Ltd, has announced the winners of its STEAM Competition in Chester County, S.C., where Giti’s North American manufacturing facility is headquartered.  

The winners include Great Falls Elementary School for the elementary division; Chester Middle School for the middle school division; and Lewisville High School for the high school division.  

Giti Tire has partnered with the Chester County School District to encourage science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to students through its STEAM Competition.   

“Giti Tire’s dedication extends far beyond the present,” sways Phang Wai Yeen, CEO of Giti Tire Manufacturing (USA) Ltd. 

“We are invested in equipping local students with the knowledge and passion for technology that will propel them as invaluable contributors to our workforce.”  

The competition is segmented into elementary, middle and high school tiers and this year, students were encouraged to construct roller coaster models, using materials such as wood, wire, string, cardboard and glue. 

Judging is based on technical merit, theme and creativity. Additionally, teams competed for superlative categories, including Most Thrilling, Best Name and Most Creative or Unique. New this year, the winning teams from each division will progress to compete out of state.

'We recognize that many tires are imported and that tariffs will undoubtedly affect the (tire) industry,' said Roy Littlefield IV, the Tire Industry Association's vice president of government affairs. 'However, the extent and specifics of that impact cannot be determined at this time. TIA will continue to monitor the situation closely.'
