Continental Tire the Americas LLC’s new commercial truck tire plant in Clinton, Miss., is up and running and will produce 750,000 units a year, according to the company.
The plant, Continental’s second facility in the United States that manufactures medium truck tires, shipped its first batch of tires to Southern Tire Mart earlier this month. (Continental’s Mount Vernon, Ill., plant which opened in 1988, can build 10,300 truck tires per day when running at full capacity, according to MTD research.)
“Continental has seen customer demand for commercial vehicle tires growing globally in the past decade, both in new truck and bus tires, as well as tire retreads,” say company officials. “This growth led the company to establish further production capacity in the U.S. The Clinton plant is Continental’s first new plant for the truck tire business globally in more than 10 years.”
The new plant will enhance Continental’s ability “to service the North American market and deliver tires faster to our customers,” says Tom Fanning, the company’s U.S. market manager for truck and bus tires.
