Maserati’s new flagship supercar, the MC20, will ride on tires developed by Bridgestone Americas Inc.
The tiremaker customized Potenza tires with an asymmetric tread design to enhance the vehicle's steering response and cornering stability. Bridgestone says the tire also features a newly developed tread compound that enhances grip, and an internal crown structure that distributes footprint pressure evenly when cornering. Bridgestone says those elements result in a high performance tire that offers a "mix of control, speed, and stability that improves the supercar’s overall performance."
Shannon Quinn, president of Bridgestone's OE business in North America, says, “Our custom-designed Potenza tires on the Maserati MC20 were engineered to meet the high-performance demands of this unique vehicle. Collaborating once again with Maserati, we developed a Potenza tire that enables Maserati’s MC20 to deliver on its power, control and sporting capabilities, while incorporating innovative, sustainable technologies to bring the MC20 to market.”
The tires were tested by both Bridgestone and Maserati, and Bridgestone says it used its virtual tire modeling technology to shorten the development process, which it says limited the project's environmental impact in addition to reducing the time it took to bring it to market.
“The MC20 project is the latest chapter in the pioneering relationship between Bridgestone and Maserati,” says Federico Landini, Maserati Vehicle Line Executive sports cars. “We both share the same passion for innovation and excellence, and want to offer to our customers premium products that deliver outstanding results. Bridgestone engineered a sports tire capable of supporting and enhancing the incredible performance of the MC20.”
