Goodyear-Cooper Deal: Goodyear to Get Three More Plants, Nearly 100K Units in Added Capacity
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s acquisition of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will expand the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker’s United States-based manufacturing footprint to seven plants and will add an extra 97,000 units of passenger and light truck tire manufacturing capacity to what Goodyear already enjoys.
Cooper operates three plants in the U.S.: one in Findlay, Ohio; one in Tupelo, Miss.; and one in Texarkana, Ark. The Findlay and Texarkana plants produce both passenger and light truck tires. Cooper’s Tupelo plant only manufactures passenger tires. (Cooper's Roadmaster brand and namesake brand commercial truck tires are sourced from non-U.S. facilities.)
Of Goodyear’s five U.S.-based plants, two - one in Fayetteville, N.C., and another in Lawton, Okla. - manufacture consumer tires. (The others - Goodyear’s Danville, Va., and Topeka, Kan., plants - produce commercial tires. Goodyear's fifth plant - which is located in Akron, Ohio - makes racing tires.)
Cooper’s three U.S. consumer tire plants, together, have the capacity to produce 97,000 units per day, according to MTD estimates. Goodyear’s two U.S. consumer tire plants have a combined capacity of 106,000 units.
Here’s a more detailed look at the five consumer tire plants’ maximum capacities, according to MTD estimates:

Cooper does not have a manufacturing presence in Canada. Goodyear has one consumer tire plant in Canada. (The company’s plant in Napanee, Ontario, has the capacity to build 19,000 passenger tires per day, according to MTD estimates.)
Goodyear also has a consumer tire manufacturing plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, which has the capacity to build 16,400 passenger tires per day, according to MTD estimates. The plant opened in 2017.
Goodyear's $2.5 billion acquisition of Cooper, announced on Feb. 22, is scheduled to close during the second half of 2021.
