Tracking Purcell Tire’s Acquisitions

Aug. 19, 2024

Purcell Tire & Rubber Co.’s acquisition of Jack’s Tire and Oil Management Co. Inc. is Purcell Tire’s sixth acquisition in the last four years.

In May 2020, Purcell Tire acquired Wilson Industrial Tires Inc., an independent tire dealership in Missouri that supplied tires for material handling trucks, plus farm, forestry and lawn service equipment.

According to Purcell officials at the time, Wilson Industrial Tire, which was founded in 1991 by Kenny Wilson, was "one of the only distributors who offers ‘loaners’ for equipment with their tire and wheel exchange program.

“They also offer all their services - including solids, pneumatics, poly and cushion press forklift tires - on-site, so reductions in productivity are minimal. Solutions such as track tires and recaps for skid steer tires are also available.”

In January 2021, Purcell Tire announced it had purchased Quality Tire Co., which specialized in commercial truck, OTR and retread services and had nine outlets in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Colorado.

Thirteen months later, Purcell Tire acquired Callender Tire Inc., a Commerce City, Colo.-based OTR, commercial truck and industrial tire dealership.

“We are excited about the prospects that this expansion provides and the markets that it opens to our specialty retread product," said Purcell Tire CEO Roger Lucas when the deal was announced.

Founded in 2000 by Tom and Anne Callender, Callender Tire served the Denver, Aurora, Parker, Castle Rock, Centennial, Englewood, Littleton, Arvada, Golden, Erie, Westminster, Longmont, Loveland, and Greeley, Colo., markets.

In April 2022, Purcell Tire acquired Lowe Industrial Tire Service LLC, a single-location dealership in Grain Valley, Mo., from Jason Lowe, its owner.

Lowe, a 30-plus year industrial tire segment veteran, "will bring his knowledge, expertise and customer base" to Purcell's location in Kansas City, Mo., Purcell Tire officials said at the time.

Two months later, Purcell Tire acquired Tri-State Tire in American Fork, Utah.

Tri-State Tire was founded by Bob and Derrie Morris in 2000 and was sold to their son, Brian, two years before Purcell Tire purchased the dealership.

Tri-State Tire specialized in mobile and fleet tire service and "fits into the Purcell Tire commercial business model perfectly," Purcell Tire officials said.

Tri-State "will continue to serve the Salt Lake City area with enhanced services and additional staff from this acquisition."

Other big moves

Purcell Tire has made several other big moves over the past several years.

In November 2021, the Potosi, Mo.-based dealership sold nine retail stores in Arizona to Big Brand Tire & Service.

The Purcell Tire stores were located in Peoria, Tempe, Casa Grande, Yuma, Oro Valley, Avondale, Mesa and Phoenix. (Two stores were located in Tempe.)

In January 2021, Purcell Tire joined the Michelin Commercial Service Network and Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. and Oliver Rubber Co. LLC retreading networks.

Prior to that, Purcell Tire had been a Goodyear retreader.

In March 2021, Purcell Tire produced its first-ever Michelin retread at its Potosi plant.
