Bridgestone Americas Inc. has added a trailer tire to the Firestone truck tire lineup: the FT492. The Firestone FT492 trailer tire is SmartWay-verified and California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant. Available in five sizes, the tire features a fuel-efficient tread design to promote low rolling resistance. It's also engineered with tough sidewall protection and a wide tread footprint to help fleets perform.
“Long-haul and regional fleets demand a lot from their tires,” says Ben Johnson, director of truck and bus radial marketing in the U.S. and Canada for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO). “The Firestone FT492 tire is uniquely designed with the latest technological advancements to achieve long-lasting tread wear to help deliver the performance demanded by fleets. This newest offering reinforces our commitment at Bridgestone to help make mobility more efficient for fleets of all sizes and vocations.”
The Firestone FT492 tire is engineered for single- and tandem-axle trailer applications and offers a wide footprint to promote even wear and retreadability. The tire is designed to be paired with a Bandag retread to optimize the tire’s performance potential by extending casing life and lowering the total cost of tire ownership.
Other features of the tire include:
- thick sidewall ribs to fight curb damage and protect the casing;
- patented NanoPro-Tech polymer technology to reduce energy loss for improved rolling resistance;
- a tread pattern designed to provide secure traction in wet conditions and promote uniform pressure across the tire to minimize edge wear for long tread life; and
- an optimized belt package for casing durability and reduced tire weight.
The Firestone FT492 tire for long- and regional-haul service is available in the U.S. and Canada in size 295/75R22.5.
In November four more sizes will be available: 11R22.5, 11R22.4, 285/75R24.5 and 255/70R22.5 will available in November.
