RMA, Goodyear boost National Tire Safety Week

Feb. 27, 2012

To promote National Tire Safety Week June 3-9, 2012, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) is taking its mascot on the road.

To raise awareness of tire safety, RMA is taking “Phillip the Tire” on the campaign trail this election year. With the campaign slogan “America Needs Inflation,” the group announced in January that Phillip the Tire is running for the presidency.

To help with the promotion, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. hosted the mascot at its Wingfoot Lake Airship Hangar in Mogadore, Ohio. The blimp the Spirit of Goodyear flashed special messages for the mascot, including “National tire Safety Week,” Be tire smart, play your PART,” and “Under pressure? Check your tires?"

The mascot, played by RMA’s Public Affairs Manager Laura Polacheck, was invited to sit at the controls of the blimp. She also met the entire blimp crew and blimp pilots Jerry Hissem and Rob Delarange.
