Two of the largest independent tire dealers in the United States compete aggressively in the mail-order business.
Discount Tire Co. Inc. -- through its Discount Tire Direct subsidiary -- and The Tire Rack advertise in consumer buff books. But their approaches to the ads themselves reveal just how different the companies are.
Their ads in the March issue of "Car and Driver" are a case in point. One is a tire and wheel retailer. The other is much more.
Of course there are some similarities. As you might expect, both ads list some of the same tire brands (they share 11 brands, to be exact).
But to find out what sets their ads apart, check out the latest blog from Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich, "Mano a mano: Discount Tire Direct vs. Tire Rack."
