ATD will sell 26 retail stores to Monro

May 28, 2009

American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has reached an agreement to sell 26 St. Louis, Mo.-based Autotire Car Care Centers stores to Monro Muffler Brake Inc. for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to close by the end of next month.

The stores, which were previously owned by Am-Pac Tire Distributors Inc., were acquired by ATD when ATD bought Am-Pac at the end of 2008.

"ATD has stated many times and for many years that we do not intend to compete with our customers," says ATD CEO and President Bill Berry.

"We believe this business model differentiates us from many other companies that distribute tires and related products in the marketplace. We want our customers to look at us as a valued advisor and partner, not a a competitor."

ATD also picked up 11 stores in southern California via the Am-Pac acquisition and still owns those outlets.
