DENSO U.S. celebrates 40 years at AAPEX

Nov. 7, 2011

Toshiaki Fujii, head of DENSO Corp.’s Aftermarket Business Unit, announced a significant anniversary for the company at the 2011 AAPEX Show in Las Vegas, Nev.

“This year is the 40th anniversary of NIPPONDENSO of Los Angeles, the predecessor of DENSO Sales California,” said Fujii. “Forty years ago, DENSO Sales California was established as DENSO's first overseas subsidiary company. We are proud of our heritage in North America, and we will continue to partner with our customers for many years to come.”

Fujii said that today, in North America, DENSO employs more than 13,000 people at 28 consolidated companies. North American consolidated sales totaled US$6.4 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011.

DENSO’s global consolidated sales totaled US$37.7 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011.

“Our goal is to contribute to an advanced automotive society for both OEM and aftermarket customers,” Fujii explained. “Currently, DENSO has 30 aftermarket companies with $4 billion in sales.”

Fujii said that DENSO’s mission in the aftermarket is to enhance the quality and ecology of automobiles, from production through disposal.  For example, since 1997, the company’s remanufacturing facility in Southern California has recycled 100% of its water – with zero discharge into the city’s sewage system.

Fujii also announced the formation of a new aftermarket division.

“The North American automotive aftermarket is one-fourth of the global market. DENSO is committed to strengthening and growing our aftermarket business in this region,” said Fujii. “Applying the knowledge we have gained in the North American market to the global aftermarket is one of the main reasons why we have created this new global business unit.”
