Tariffs will negatively affect jobs, says economist

Aug. 17, 2009

Chinese consumer tire imports may or may not have additional tariffs imposed on them soon. The Office of  the United States Trade Representative has listened to both sides, and recommendations to President Obama will follow.

The president's final decision on the matter will be made no later than Sept. 17, 2009.

In opposition to the 55% additional tariff recommended by the International Trade Commission, the American Coalition for Free Trade in Tires commissioned a study by Dr. Tom Prusa, a professor at Rutgers University.

Who is Prusa? And what does he have to say about effect the tariffs will have on jobs in the U.S.? Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich tells you in his latest blog.
