Despite ongoing supply chain complications, the Port of Los Angeles set a western hemisphere cargo processing record in 2021 - moving around 10.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units.
Port executive Gene Seroka shared the information during a recent Pacific Merchant Shipping Association event.
During his presentation, Seroka applauded investments being made in American ports, including $17 billion earmarked in the recently passed infrastructure bill.
"This level of funding represents a monumental opportunity for ports," he said.
The largest port operation in North America based on container volume and cargo value, the Port of Los Angeles facilitated $259 billion in trade during 2020.
