Big Brand Tire has acquired nine Purcell Tire & Rubber Co. retail locations in Arizona. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The Purcell stores are located in Peoria, Tempe, Casa Grande, Yuma, Oro Valley, Avondale, Mesa and Phoenix. (Two stores are in Tempe.)
In a statement, Purcell Tire officials noted that the Potosi, Mo.-based dealership, which was started by Robert M. Purcell in 1936, "has continued to expand into new markets with a superior product and service offering.
"Consider the major acquisitions in the last 20 years - Western States Tire, D&D Tire, Phelps Tire, Northwest Retreaders and Quality Tire - and our strategy has always been focused on growth.
"This transaction does not change that strategy. In fact, it strengthens it. We have positioned ourselves as a major player in the commercial tire industry and our status continues to climb.
"Retreading and commercial tire service is what we do best. By divesting this geographical group of retail-focused stores, we will be able to focus more of our attention and resources to the further development of retreading and commercial business in both current and new geographic areas."
The sale of the nine retail stores gives Purcell Tire 75 locations, according to the 2021 MTD 100.
San Francisco, Calif.-based private equity firm Percheron Capital owns Big Brand Tire.
