Global Rubber Industries Pvt. Ltd. (GRI) is working to increase use of recycled carbon black (RCB) for production of specialty tires.
The company says the RCB appears to be a "promising alternative to traditional fossil-based virgin carbon black," and it provides an opportunity lower the environmental impact of tire production while still ensuring the necessary properties of specialty tires, including strength and resiliency.
“GRI's decision to substantially decrease the utilization of virgin carbon black and instead harness the power of RCB for the premium material handling tire Ultimate Green XT for forklifts as well as the radial agriculture tires Green XLR Earth series is true evidence to GRI’s visionary approach to making a positive impact on our planet. This endeavor goes beyond traditional tire development and considers the full lifecycle impact of the product from manufacturing to end-of-life disposal”, says CEO Mahesha Ranasoma.
GRI says it is partnering with "premium" RCB suppliers, and the use of recycled carbon black is part of a "strategic vision" to match tire production with "responsible manufacturing" using recycled materials.
