Autel Tablets Gain AutoAuth Certification for SGW Access for Mercedes-Benz

Feb. 17, 2025

Autel U.S. has announced its tablets have been certified by the Auto Authentication Authority (AutoAuth) to access Mercedes-Benz vehicles’ security gateway (SGW).

As a result, Autel tablet users can now access more vehicle brands’ secure gateways.

Autel also negotiated with the Volkswagen/Audi Group to add SGW access capabilities to its diagnostic and service tablets, which Autel added to its functionality last month.

Users can purchase single VW/Audi VIN/24-hour sessions or unlimited VINs/full-year access plans.

"Increasingly, automakers are securing critical vehicle systems behind gateway modules,” says Maurice Miller, vice president of customer success at Autel.

“We have prioritized getting our tablets authorized to access these systems and enabling our technicians to service the vehicles they need to. Autel has consistently led the aftermarket in getting this functionality to our products and technicians."

Once Autel tablet owners register their tool for Mercedes-Benz SGW access with AutoAuth, they can perform restricted functions including clearing codes, active tests, special functions, service rests, advanced driver assistance system calibrations and more.

Mercedes-Benz is the latest automaker to authorize Autel tablets to access SGW-protected systems via AutoAuth. Technicians can also access Nissan and Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Maserati) vehicles with an SGW through an AutoAuth-registered Autel tablet.
