The results of the J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Aftermarket Service Index Study have been released. Who "made the grade" in the study's "tire replacement" category?
Bridgestone Americas Inc.'s Tire Plus chain took the top spot this year, registering a score of 835 on a 1,000-point scale.
J.D. Power says it determines scores based on seven metrics: ease of scheduling, fairness of charges, service advisor courtesy, senior advisor performance, service facility, time to complete service and quality of work. The company includes independent tire dealerships, tire manufacturer-owned chains, franchise operations, warehouse clubs and mass merchandisers in the tire portion of its study.
Here's how other tire retailers ranked this year, with their scores listed in parentheses:
- Discount Tire (834)
- Firestone Complete Auto Care (813)
- Midas (811)
- Goodyear Tire & Auto Service (809)
- Jiffy Lube (808)
- Les Schwab Tire Centers (806)
- National Tire & Battery-NTB (801)
- Pep Boys (796)
- Costco (789)
- Big O Tires (779)
- Walmart (772)
- Mavis (762)
Companies that sell tires also comprised nine of the 12 chains that were listed in J.D. Power's "full service maintenance and repair" category this year. They include Goodyear Tire & Auto Service (816 points); Discount Tire (813 points); Midas (805 points); Firestone Complete Auto Care (795 points); Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack (783); NTB (777); Tires Plus (777); Big O Tires (771): and Mavis (760).
J.D. Power also revealed that respondents to the 2022 study reported that "aftermarket service providers are easy to do business with" and outperform new car dealerships in tire replacement, "general maintenance" and oil change services.
"To remain competitive, independent service providers must understand that it's important to build on the competitive advantage of being easier to do business with," said Leonard Martin, director of automotive retail at J.D. Power.
