GT Radial captured its first Formula DRIFT victory over the weekend in the KMC Super Drift Challenge during the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Driving on GT Radial Champiro SX2 ultra high performance tires, Conrad Grunewald and his Always Evolving/Replay Camera Chevrolet Camaro outmatched Robbie Nishida and his Lexus SC300 in thrilling competition under the lights on the streets of Long Beach. Sixteen of the top Formula DRIFT drivers competed for a $25,000 prize purse.
This is Grunewald’s first year to drive on GT Radial tires and the second year of competition for the brand in Formula DRIFT. The 2015 GT Radial Formula DRIFT roster also includes drivers Kyle Mohan, who competed on GT Radial tires last year, and Chelsea Denofa.
“We are thrilled to notch our first victory in Formula DRIFT and wish to congratulate Conrad on an outstanding effort against fierce competition,” said Mike Meeiem, motorsports marketing manager, Giti Tire (USA), Ltd. “It was great to showcase GT Radial performance before such a large and enthusiastic crowd on the streets of Long Beach.”
With support from BRE Motorsports, the ReplayXD/Always Evolving Camaro features a twin-turbo with an LSX 376. A second car is being used for media and event appearances and will be on display at all Formula DRIFT events at the CGR paddock.
The Champiro SX2 was developed for driving enthusiasts who want higher levels of traction, response and driving control in dry and wet conditions. An outstanding performer on the street and the track, the Champiro SX2 has already experienced considerable success in Formula DRIFT Asia.
Formula DRIFT continues to Round 2: Road to the Championship at Road Atlanta on May 8-9, 2015.
