It was a banner weekend for Snap-on drivers at race tracks coast-to-coast as NHRA dragsters Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car) and Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) captured the season points championships at the season-ending Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona Nov. 13-16. In addition to the two NHRA titles, Snap-on driver Clint Bowyer won the NASCAR Nationwide points championship by finishing fifth at the final race in Miami on Nov. 15.
"What a great weekend and even better seasons for Cruz, Jeg and Clint," said Alicia Smales, vice president of marketing for Snap-on Tools. "We want to congratulate the three of them on their championships and all of our Snap-on drivers for great seasons.
"Our drivers are true professionals both on and off the track and are great ambassadors to spread the Snap-on message. We are extremely fortunate to be associated with such a great group of drivers."
Cruz Pedregon not only won the Funny Car season points championship, but also did so in style as he took first place in the Pomona race. Although he was knocked out in the first round of the Pomona Pro Stock race, Coughlin was still able to win his second-consecutive season championship under the new "Countdown to 1" format.
Bowyer captured the NASCAR Nationwide points championship with a fifth-place showing in the Ford 300 on Nov. 15. The next day he followed that up by finishing fifth in the Ford 400 NASACAR Nextel Cup capture, which gave him a fifth-place finish in the Nextel Cup season points final standings.
A fourth Snap-on driver almost captured a season title in the NASCAR Truck Series as Ron Hornaday finished second overall in the truck series final standings.
