Pirelli Designs New Tire for Ford Bronco and Ford Maverick

Sept. 7, 2021

A new, "tailor-made" Pirelli Scorpion ATR has been designed exclusively for the Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Maverick. "Ford's targets for this tire were particularly challenging," according to Pirelli officials.

"The request was to develop an all-terrain tire with high off-road capabilities - able to combine the typical performance, handling and comfort characteristics of an all-season tire. To meet these requirements, Pirelli engineers focused their work on two specific areas: the tread pattern and the compound."

The Pirelli Scorpion ATR features an aggressive tread pattern designed for optimal water, mud and stone evacuation.

"Once back on the road, it provides maximum comfort with a dedicated tread design developed to reduce tire noise."

The tire also features a "new generation of tread compound designed to offer excellent wet handling, outstanding braking and improved snow performance. To achieve these goals, Pirelli deployed its most advanced simulation and engineering tools to meet Ford's demanding tire specification targets at every iteration of development.

"This digital and collaborative design approach significantly increased development speed and optimized tire performance, along with a reduction in the number of physical tires tested."

The tire is available in size 225/65R17.

With the Scorpion ATR's roll-out, Pirelli - which is a longstanding original equipment supplier to the popular Ford F-150 - says the company "covers all the needs of Ford owners."
