Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) wants 85% of its replacement tire volume to be produced in North and South America and hopes to achieve that goal within three to four years.
In 2009, CTNA will source 27% of its tires from Europe, CTNA Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Andreas Gerstenberger told www.moderntiredealer.com. "In 2008, 33% of CTNA's replacement sales volume came from Europe."
Moving production to North America will improve fill rates, help CTNA respond more quickly to market conditions, and minimize the impact of currency fluctuations, said Gerstenberger.
