As part of Chrysler's coming reorganization under Chapter 11, most of the auto manufacturer's manufacturing plants will be temporarily idled, starting May 4.
While normal production schedules will resume when the deal is completed, which is expected to happen within 30 to 60 days, the idling will have an impact on Chrysler's original equipment tire suppliers.
According to Modern Tire Dealer data, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is Chrysler's biggest OE passenger and light truck tire supplier in the United States and Canada with 65% share. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is the company's second largest tire supplier with a total share of 18% (10% Bridgestone and 8% Firestone).
Michelin North America Inc. supplies 8% (7% through its Michelin brand and 1% through its BFGoodrich label.) Continental Tire North America Inc. is next, with 6% total share (4% Continental and 2% General). Yokohama Tire Corp. supplies 2%, while Pirelli Tire North America rounds out the list, with 1% share.
