Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has rolled out its HTL1 wide-base medium truck tire for trailer positions.
"Designed for significant weight savings and fuel efficiency, the HTL1 (Heavy Trailer Long-Haul)... replaces duals on highway or regional trailer axle fitments," say CTNA officials.
The tire contains 13/21-inch tread depth, which minimizes irregular wear and maximizes fuel efficiency; a six-rib design for even load distribution over the crown of the tire; a decoupler rib for "better irregular wear resistance at the shoulder;" and other features.
"With only two sidewalls and beads instead of four with a dual set of tires, there is less energy generated in flexing. This factor combines with weight reduction to reduce rolling resistance, which results in greater fuel efficiency. As a result of a wider axle track, drivers also can expect improved vehicle stability when the HTL1 is integrated into new equipment."
The HTL1 is available in size 445/50R22.5. It can operate at a maximum load of 10,200 pounds at 120 psi.
