Continental Makes Big Investment in Sumter

Continental Tire the Americas LLC has installed a new extruder line at its Sumter, S.C., consumer tire plant, which is marking its 10th anniversary.

Continental held a ribbon-cutting event on May 22 to unveil the extruder line.

“The line represents Continental Tire's commitment to innovation and its dedication to the Sumter community, promising new job opportunities and enhanced production capabilities,” according to Continental officials.

“This investment demonstrates our faith in the local workforce and our pledge to contribute positively to the Sumter economy,” says JJ Dowling, the plant’s manager.

Attendees of the event were treated to a tour of the factory, “showcasing the latest in manufacturing technology and efficiency.

“As Continental Tire reflects on a decade filled with notable achievements, the company acknowledges the crucial role the Sumter community has played in its journey.

“The 10th anniversary and the launch of the new extruder line mark a new chapter in this ongoing partnership, with a continued focus on delivering exceptional quality products, enhancing the local economy and cultivating a future of collective growth and prosperity.”

Over the last decade, Continental has invested more than $1.5 billion in its U.S. tire manufacturing operations, which also include a medium truck tire manufacturing plant in Clinton, Miss., and consumer/commercial tire production plant in Mount Vernon, Ill.

Continental’s total annual production capacity in the U.S. is more than 16 million tires, according to the latest numbers from the company.
