Continental Tire the Americas LLC plans to expand its tire manufacturing plant in Mount Vernon, Ill.
The Fort Mill, S.C.-based tire manufacturer recently was granted two building permits that will add as many as 350 jobs to the plant’s workforce. In a related move, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation that will give the company a tax break.
Continental’s Mount Vernon facility has the capacity to produce 40,500 tires a day, according to the 2011 Modern Tire Dealer Facts Issue. The tire capacity breaks out as follows:
Passenger -- 28,000.
Light truck -- 8,000.
Truck -- 4,500.
Continental will reveal its plans for the plant in more detail on Thursday, May 12. MTD will be in Mount Vernon to report on the event.
