The New England Tire & Service Association (NETSA) recently awarded $2,000 scholarship to 21 recipients during an event held at the Shining Rock Golf Club in Northbridge, Mass.
NETSA has given away scholarships since 2013 and by next year, will have raised over $500,000 for deserving recipients, according to Tony DeSimone, NETSA executive director.
An individual must be at least a two-year member of NETSA - or be a member's spouse or dependent - to be eligible for a scholarship, which can go toward a two-year or four-year university of post-graduate technical school.
Scholarship sponsors provide $1,000 and NETSA matches that amount.
NETSA raises this money through an annual golf outing and an auction that takes place at the association's annual tradeshow in April.
DeSimone says that this scholarship program is “just a drop in the bucket” for the recipients, but NETSA is thrilled to help them regardless.
“It’s the forefront on the news every day about how much college tuition has grown,” says DeSimone.
NETSA's scholarship program "is the most fun I get to have in this job. I get to go around and play Santa Claus, give out these scholarships, and meet these fine, young people.”
