Former MTD Tire Dealer of the Year Tom Gegax brings his story to Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video, starting on Feb. 11.
“Confessions of a CEO,” a new documentary, chronicles Gegax’s life and career journey and the lessons about empathetic leadership that he has learned — and put into practice — along the way.
Gegax, along with business partner Don Gullett, founded Team Tires Plus in 1976 and helped grow the company into one of the largest independent tire dealerships in the United States.
Team Tires Plus was eventually acquired by Bridgestone. Gegax was named MTD’s Tire Dealer of the Year in 1998.
When asked about the message of the documentary, Gegax told MTD that he believes CEOs "need to engage in personal growth that allows them to see things differently, so they are better equipped to gradually make the changes necessary.
"My showing all of my faults, personally and professionally, was important for CEOs to see that I was owning my ‘stuff' and for employees to also engage in personal growth."
Commenting on the film's content, Gegax said that he "was careful to get most of what I wanted to get in. It combined education with entertainment. If you don’t lead with entertainment, the viewer will get bored and never take in the education. Secondly, I wanted something on imperfection, which we all are. Strive to be better, yet be gentle on ourselves, when we are imperfect. Otherwise, we get stuck in our private shame."
